Those are the lines which Shyama says to her daughter Amudha during the final scenes of the movie Kannathil Muthamittal (A peck on the cheek).
Tamil movie Kannathil Muthamittal or A peck on the cheek, the Movie’s English title, was written and directed by Mani Ratnam and released in 2002. Its a story about a 9 year old girl who goes in search of her biological mother to war torn Sri Lanka and manages to find her. Though the war is just the backdrop of the movie the main story is about human emotions and love. The movie doesn’t go in deep about the ethnic crisis of Sri Lanka nor doesn’t take sides. But it does shows the impact of war on people.
Being an avid fan of Mani Ratnam, I always look forward for his movies to be released. I do not know why, but may be because Kannathil Muthamittal is one of my favourite movie, I had this weird thought in me. Now, as the Sri Lanka government has announced the end of the civil war, I felt it would be meaningful if there was a sequel of Kannathil Muthamittal where Amudha returns back in search of her mother again. Also it would be a nice effort to show the trauma of the people who were affected by the war.
Not only Shyama wished, but many wished a war free land and it is free of war today, but it is a big question mark if peace prevails in the island nation. I wish they soon have a political solution for the ethnic issue which will truly bring peace to the country.
