Winning war isn’t everything, also winning election isn’t everything, but finding a strong political solution for the age old ethnic crisis of Sri Lanka is everything. After winning the high drama filled presidential election, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said,”… From today onward, I am the president of everyone, whether they voted for me or not.”Yes, rightly said, whether the people voted for him or not, he is the President for everyone. At the same time it is the responsibility of his government to keep every section happy. The rich history of Sri Lanka does not belong particularly to any one group in the island. Each and every ethnic group in the island have contributed to the history of the island nation. It is equivalent to cut off a vital part if any one of the sections contribution is ignored or erased or not respected.
Tamil people did not seek a political solution to their grievances; rather, they simply needed to be resettled in their homes after the war – President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Yes, a common man always wishes for a simple peaceful life. He does not wish for power to suppress others or to dictate others. But to safeguard his peace, the common man needs a strong hold in the government, where his voice can be heard. Else the common man have to live under threat and fear forever.
Not only the Tamil population around the world looks at Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s move, but the entire world is having an eye on him to see if he hits hatricks by winning peace and heart of Tamil people.
