Blogger made me move to WordPress

April 1, 2010

Finally wordpress bug bit me too. I shifted my blog from blogspot to self hosted wordpress earlier this week. I didn’t feel the need to have a self hosted blog until blogger deleted one of my blog which was marked as spam  the same day I started it. The most surprising part was, the blog didn’t even have single post in it when it was marked as spam.  I found that it was marked as spam while I was trying different templates. I submitted the blog for manual verification and as per blogger it should have been resolved in 48 hours. But it took more than 20 days and the blog was deleted because it had spam content!

How could a blog have spam content when it hardly had any conent in it? I am not sure if this has anything to do with the template I chose. I didn’t want to take a chance by losing my main blog to some automated algorithm which goes on a rage to mark blogs as spam.

I was bit lost during the initial stage of migration. But once I started the process it was not as tough as I expected it to be. I lost few comments and had to spend few hours in redirecting my old links to the new one. Now I have my second blog in self hosted wordpress too.

Logically this is the first post I am posting on my blog after migrating to wordpress. Welcome all!

I have been planning to do the same. I have domain hosted on Blogger but I think wordpress is much better. You should really put up tips for people like me on how you did it. I am totally clueless.

Welcome Pineapple, I feel having a custom domain with blogger is an advantage. I had custom domain too. I will surely make a post on my experience I had while migrating from blogger to wordpress. WordPress certainly has better features. I am still learning as I am new to this.

My colleague also faced the same problem , but he was actually spamming..:)

He has got a software , through which he redirects posts from difference blogs to his account and with little change in words uses all of them on his blog .. (he just want to earn money through it).

But its really strange that ..your blog was deleted.. even when you have not written any post.

Anyways.. now i will also think to move to word press or buy space… from any web hosting company.

Thank you for sharing this information..

Hi Arvind, I have heard of blogger marking certain blogs as spam. From time to time i heard people complaining that their genuine blogs were marked as spam. I thought it might be a mistake. But marking a day old blog with hardly any post is something weird. Didn’t want to take chances, so I moved to self hosted blog.
I see you have a custom domain. It would not be hard for you to move to self hosted wp. As you can use the same domain there too.
