Stop Homophobia

I used to consider homophobia as perversion, but soon I realised that it is not good to discriminate someone for their social disorder. If I hated a homophobic person, I would be a pervert myself for being a ‘homophobephobe.’ Also hating someone for their disorder is not an answer, instead they should be taken care of and proper treatment should be given before they become a threat to the society.

The reason why I considered homophobia as perversion  was because its totally unethical for someone to imagine what a couple would do in their bed room. Isn’t it perversion to imagine what your friend would do with his/her partner inside their bedroom? Just the thought of imagining someone’s private moment made me feel sick.

Later I concluded that homophobes were anti social elements. A person who hates peace and love is an anti social element who could do huge damage to the society. Yes! extorting money, blackmailing, verbal abuse, physical abuse, bigoted attitude and  inducing hatred among people are all considered to be anti social. Homophobic attitude can also be deemed as undemocratic as all they wanted to do was to impose their ‘sexuality’ on everyone. When would they understand that sexuality is not something that can be imposed just because heterosexuality outnumbers other sexual orientations. Homophobes were not only undemocratic and anti social, they were also sinners. Homophobes preach others to hate a fellow human being in the name of God. Isn’t it sin to drag God inside to validate their hatred and anti social thoughts? I personally find it as a huge sin to discriminate and persecute someone in the name of God.

But as I mentioned earlier I realised I was wrong, homophobia is just another disease. A disease which occupies one’s mind with prejudice and ignorance. Some might claim that homophobia is an opinion. Disagreeing with one person’s sexuality can be considered as a mean opinion, but hatred and prejudice is certainly not an opinion. If homophobia is seen as someone’s belief, then drug addictions could also be taken that way. But we cannot, because we certainly know that drug addiction is not good to the person who is addicted as well as to the people around them and the society.

Homophobia is certainly a disorder which could cause harm to the society. People suffering from homophobia should be taken care of like we do for other disorders. Proper counselling and educating about human diversity will surely bring a person out of this contagious disease.

International Anti Homophobia Day is celebrated on 17th May, let us try to stop hatred and try to accept people for who they are.

PS: Dont argue that homosexuality is enethical and equate it with other unethical relationships and criminal activities. When we talk about heterosexuality we do not bring those unethical relationships to discard heterosexuality, then why to bring such issues only when homosexuality is discussed. When I say homosexuality,  it means love between two consenting adults in all legal and ethical ways. If you still conpare homosexuality with other issues, the above article is for you. You seriously need help.

Funny enough homophobics mostly have problems themselves with their sexuality. In their utter frustration they take it out on others.
