A washing machine that washes!

Shopping for home appliances are tricky. Especially when we have so many options to buy from and at the end of the day they all do the same. When I decided to buy a new washing machine, I did not have any idea of what model I wanted nor did I know the difference between an automatic and semi automatic washing machine.

As I was confused, my friend told me about a store that gives 40 – 50% discount on home appliances. The offer sounded promising, my friend and I went to the store to find something that I actually like. Soon we realised that the sale was for second hand items and we both were disappointed as this was not mentioned anywhere outside in the flyer. Since we entered the store, we decided to look around.

A sales guy approached and asked, “How can I help you sir?”

“Hmm, we are looking for a washing machine…” said my friend.

He pointed to some random washing machines and told us the price, “This Rs 6500 sir…this Rs 9000… this Rs 17,000…”

My friend interrupted and asked, “Why is this 17,000 and this 6500?”

Not expecting such a question he spoke haltingly and searched for an answer, by this time we concluded that he had lesser knowledge about washing machines than us. We decided to take on him as we were already disappointed by the fact that it was a second sales and it was not mentioned. My friend repeated his question again and now he managed to reply,

“Sir…this one (pointing to the higher priced one) washes better than this (lower priced one).”

I asked “Does this mean, other machines don’t wash well?”

He realised what he said and tried to correct, “ I mean, this washes bed sheets, blankets…”

“And this?” asked my friend pointing to other machine.

“That too” he said.

“Then why the price difference?” I asked.

“This dries the cloths too sir…” said he.

“On the cloth line?” asked my friend keeping a straight face.

As he realised we were openly mocking he asked, “Sir…do you want to buy any of these?”

“No!” we said and walked out.
